In the 1980s, people often wore what we now call ‘ugly Christmas sweaters’ and actually took themselves seriously.
By 2001, many of those regrets had landed in thrift stores. This led to an Ugly Sweater Party trend in Vancouver, Canada, gaining even more popularity when it was added to the blog Stuff White People Like in 2008.
